A Thread of Hope

Independence or War in Western Sahara

Documentary | 94 min | 2017

Neglected by the world, Western Sahara is one of the longest-running independence conflicts. The film tells the story of the resistance of the Sahrawi people, who have been waiting for decades on a referendum of self-determination, and explores their growing frustration with the UN peace process—whether in the refugee camps, the liberated zones, or the territories occupied by Morocco for more than 40 years. The film focuses on Brazil's position of neutrality, as one of the few countries in Latin America that still does not recognise Western Sahara's independence.
